Program: Brazil Parrot Rescue
About
As the largest country in South America, Brazil is home to over 80 endemic and non-endemic parrot species. Many of them are near-threatened or threatened in the wild. The main issues affecting these vibrant birds are poaching and a deforestation, mainly due to conversion to agriculture.
Brazil's most trafficked parrot is the Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva) with hundreds of thousands having been trapped over decades. They and other parrot species face continuous threats from human activities.
