Colour Adult:

Adult mostly brown in colour; orange cheeks and neck; pale yellow breast; orange abdomen and undertail coverts; tail brown. Beak pale brown. Eye brown.

Colour Juvenile:

As in adults, but breast olive/brown.

Call:

Described as ‘hoarse’ and ‘quacking.’

Threat Summary:

Was heavily hunted and trapped for pets. Habitat clearance also likely affected this species. The population suffered its worst decline and likely extinction after penal colonies were built and maintained on the island.

Range:

Formerly Norfolk Island and nearby Philip and Nepean Islands, Tasman Sea.

Habitat:

Tall-treed and shrubby habitat.

Wild Diet:

Probably insects and their larvae; also blossoms of Lagunaria patersonia reported.

Ecology and Behaviour:

These parrots were said to have lived both on the ground and in tall trees, feeding on flowering shrubs and trees.
