The World Parrot Trust has teamed up with Law and Wildlife (LaW) and NEDA eLearning Solutions to launch a new initiative which aims to improve law enforcement and help end the trafficking of African Grey parrots in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Each year thousands of African Greys are illegally captured and trafficked from the DRC, but law enforcement is lacking, in part because of the complexity of national legislation and confusion over the relevant laws among public officials. The free online training aims to improve awareness of international legal provisions and national legal systems, regarding what is considered as illegal, and which authorities are mandated to protect the species.
